The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
